Engineering is a branch of science that deals with the design, building, and use of engines, machines, and structures. This subject is about creating and applying ideas to the real world. What is learned in math and science is used by engineers to do things that improve our lives?

Watch this video from the National Science Foundation where students talk about engineering.

In spite of the fact that engineering is a scientific field, it has a lot to do with creativity so people or students who want to be creative, inventive, curious and hands-on, could take up engineering.

TYPES OF ENGINEERING

There are many types of engineering and some of these are:

Civil Engineering

Civil engineering deals with the construction, design, and maintenance of roads, canals, bridges, and so forth.

Aerospace Engineering

This involves the design and construction of spacecraft and aircraft. It gives you detailed knowledge about different parts of aircraft or spacecraft design.

Agricultural Engineering

This subject is about different sciences and technologies utilized as a part of the production and processing of agriculture. It is knowledge about different aspects of how food is produced, processed, preserved, and marketed.

Environmental Engineering

This discipline works to provide us with healthy land, water, and air for safe habitation. Also, this particular profession attempts to discover ways to reverse environmental disasters caused by pollution.

Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical engineering is essentially focused on living systems. It is the application of engineering principles to medicine and biology.  It works to improve healthcare.

Chemical Engineering

This branch of engineering includes different aspects of transforming chemicals and raw materials, either physically or artificially (chemically), into more useful and valuable items that we use on a daily basis.

Industrial Engineering

Industrial Engineering is concerned with the development and advancement of production processes. In inventing or making up systems the focus is on discovering ways to eliminate waste such as energy, time, materials, money, etc.

Electrical Engineering

This subject is concerned with the study, development, and use of electricity and other systems designed around electronics and electromagnetism. This is how we get electrical power where we need it.

Computer Engineering

Computer Engineering is a combination of electronic engineering and computer science. Computer engineers design both computer hardware and computer software and also create solutions for the integration of both.

Mechanical Engineering

This field deals with designing, analyzing, and maintaining machines or mechanical systems. It is one of the widest and oldest engineering disciplines.

Nuclear Engineering

This subject involves finding applications for nuclear energy and how it is used as an alternate source of energy. It incorporates the development and maintenance of power plants, weapons, and nuclear reactors.

CONCLUSION

Every one of these fields, though different, is interlinked and offers great assistance to one another. For example, one of the greatest innovations of the twentieth century was the Computer. It was invented by a civil engineer in 1941 to assist his friend who happened to be in a different engineering field.

Engineers, basically, utilize their knowledge of math and science to solve real-world problems. Most engineers are directly involved in developing and building new things or improving what is around us.

The road to becoming an engineer begins in school with the study of math and science.
